Elizabeth A. Stanek

Liz is co-managing shareholder of Stanek Lemon. She is a patent attorney whose practice includes preparing, filing and prosecuting domestic and foreign patent applications in the electrical arts including telecommunications, semiconductor devices, semiconductor fabrication, power devices, power device fabrication, circuit breakers, circuit breaker fabrication, LEDs, medical devices, HVAC systems, optical coherence tomography (OCT), microscope systems and design, “smart grid” related technology and related devices, imaging and software. Liz also counsels clients on matters related to intellectual property (IP) including trademarks and assists with management of clients’ patent portfolios, including due diligence, non-disclosure agreements and litigation support. Liz works with all types of clients, from clients just starting out in the startup arena to clients leading the world in their area of expertise.

Shawna Cannon Lemon, Ph.D.

Shawna is co-managing shareholder of Stanek Lemon.  She serves as outside patent counsel to pharmaceutical and biotechnology management teams and universities where she engages in the formulation and implementation of global patent strategies. Shawna also drafts and prosecutes applications directed to medical devices and materials and compositions included in semiconductor devices. In addition, she assists clients with intellectual property due diligence, partnering negotiations, licensing and design patents.

Shawna has co-authored publications in scientific journals and speaks with various audiences regarding patent law topics. Prior to her legal career, Shawna worked in pharmaceutical market development at Merck & Co., Inc. Shawna is also an angel investor and uses her experience to assist her clients.

Bob Crouse

During his 22 year legal career, Bob has been responsible for the management and development of patent matters for a wide range of clients including the areas of semiconductors, audio technologies, biomedical devices, power systems, and related software.  He also has significant experience drafting invalidity and non-infringement opinions as a defense to willfulness, representing clients during due diligence, counseling clients in the acquisition of technology, negotiating patent license agreements, and conducting strategic prosecution as part of a litigation strategy. He has helped numerous clients develop a robust patent portfolio; a number of the patents Bob has drafted and prosecuted have been successfully litigated against large multi-national corporations.

Recent representative experience includes:

  • Represented a Client in the due diligence investigation of the Client’s patent portfolio in support of a $70M investment made by a European holding company.

  • Represented a Client in a due diligence investigation regarding a $10M acquisition of a patent portfolio including 1900 patents related to audio/wearable/medical technologies.

  • Represented a Client in the out-licensing of intellectual property related to video/wearable technology for real-time video systems.

  • Advised a Client as opinion counsel on issues related to invalidity and non-infringement in defense to an assertion of willful patent infringement of a group of 7 patents.

  • Represented a Client in a due diligence investigation for the acquisition of a patent portfolio related to social media systems.

Bob Meeks

Bob has extensive experience in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications for electronic, telecommunications, software, semiconductor, and electromechanical inventions, with special emphasis on electric power technologies, such as data center power distribution, microgrid control, distributed generation, uninterruptible power supplies, electrical switchgear and motor controls.  His practice also includes patent prosecution support for licensing campaigns, counseling on infringement matters, and IP landscape analysis for new products and emerging companies. 

Prior to his legal career, Bob served as a senior design engineer with the Electronic Systems Group of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation in the area of design and integration of advanced controls for airborne radar and electro-optic systems.  He received his law degree, cum laude, from the University of Georgia School of Law and his B.S. and Master's degrees in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Tech.  He has been practicing patent law since 1995.

Charles Yang, Ph.D.

Charlie is experienced in many aspects of patent preparation and prosecution, with a focus primarily on the biotech and chemical arts, and has been registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office since 2013.

Prior to practicing patent law, Charlie was a Postdoctoral Fellow in The Lineberger Cancer Center and the Human Gene Therapy Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a research scientist for a start-up biotechnology company in the Research Triangle Park.  Charlie is the primary and co-author of several publications in the fields of bio-organic chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, and molecular virology.
